The wind energy industry is one of the world’s fastest-growing and most exciting sectors. If you would like to start a career in the wind industry then GWO Basic safety training is an essential training requirement.  It provides ample opportunities for those seeking a challenging and rewarding career. The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is the leading industry body that provides standardized safety training for wind energy technicians. The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is a comprehensive training program that covers the essential safety modules necessary for working in the wind industry.

There are 5 Basic safety training modules, Working at heights, First aid, Fire awareness, Manual Handling, and Sea survival in this post we will only cover four as sea survival only applies to trainees working in the offshore wind sector.

Here are the 4 GWO Basic safety Modules.

Working at Heights: This module focuses on the hazards and risks associated with working at height in a wind turbine generator (WTG). It covers the current national legislation, identification and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the correct use of evacuation devices.

Manual Handling: This module teaches the importance of carrying out work duties in a safe and sound manner in accordance with the legislative requirements of their geographic work location. It covers safe practices of manual handling, identifying and reporting injuries related to manual handling, and risk reduction techniques.

First Aid: This module provides the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to emergency situations and provide first aid to those in need.

Fire Awareness: This module covers the causes of fire, fire prevention, fire protection, and evacuation procedures in the wind turbine environment.
